In a remarkable tribute to brave soldiers and a celebration of athleticism. Rezang-la Full Moon Marathon was first ever moon light marathon in Ladakh organised by Adventure Sports Foundation of Ladakh (ASFL), in collaboration with the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh, the District Administration Leh, and the Indian Army, recently hosted the inaugural Rezang-la Full Moon Marathon in Ladakh. This extraordinary event paid homage to the brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the 1962 war, while simultaneously marking a significant milestone in the world of adventure sports in the region.

The Journey Begins:

The full marathon covered a challenging 42 kilometers, Starting from the picturesque Merak Village along the beautiful shores of Pangong Lake. The runners ran on a journey through Ladakh’s diverse landscapes, with the beautiful lake as their starting point. Their destination was the historic Rizang-la War Memorial, a symbol of sacrifice and heroism from the 1962 war. This marathon wasn’t just a physical challenge; it was a tribute to the nation’s defenders and a testament to Ladakh’s natural beauty and rich history.

Race Highlights:

A total of 114 runners, both men and women, participated in the marathon, competing in two categories: the 42-kilometer full marathon and the 21.9-kilometer half marathon.

Rezang-la Half Marathon (21.9 KM) Results:

Men’s Category:

1. Sonam Rigzin secured the first position, completing the race in an impressive 1 hour and 44 minutes.
2. Chetan Namgyal secured the second position with a time of 1 hour and 47 minutes.
3. Sonam Chinba secured the third position, also with a timing of 1 hour and 47 minutes.

Women’s Category:

1. Tashi Ladol took the first position with an admirable timing of 1 hour and 51 minutes.
2. Stanzin Chorol secured the second position, completing the race in 2 hours and 40 minutes.
3. Thinless Angmo secured the third position with a timing of 2 hours and 44 minutes.

Rezang-la Full Moon Marathon Results (42 KM):

Men’s Category:

1. Stanzin Namgyal emerged as the winner with an incredible timing of 3 hours and 52 minutes.
2. Jigmet Singay claimed the second position, completing the grueling 42 kilometers in 4 hours and 24 minutes.
3. Padma Lundup secured the third position with a timing of 4 hours and 37 minutes.

Women’s Category:

1. Namgyal Angmo displayed remarkable strength and stamina to secure the first position, finishing the marathon in 4 hours and 27 minutes.

The Rezang-la Full Moon Marathon of 2023 not only celebrated the endurance of athletes but also served as a tribute to the indomitable spirit of Ladakh and its heroic soldiers.
