Ladakh will host the second Pangong Frozen Lake Marathon in 2024. An initiative initiated by the Adventure Sports Foundation of Ladakh (ASFL), seeks to raise awareness of climate change via adventure and sport. The inaugural Frozen Lake Marathon in India offers great opportunities for participants. This year only 50 runners will be selected to participate in the 2nd edition of Frozen Pangong Lake Marathon.

One of the most well-liked tourist destinations in India is Ladakh. Tourists’ first priority is to visit Pangong Lake, but not many are aware of how quickly the Himalayan glaciers are melting. Pangong Lake might not ice over again due to climate change for the same reason. For this reason, the Pangong Frozen Lake Marathon has also been dubbed “The Last Run” by the Adventure Sports Foundation of Ladakh (ASFL).
Pangong Lake is located at an elevation of 14,000 feet and covers 700 square kilometers. widely dispersed along the Indochina border. This place freezes over from November to March in a thick coating of ice. This lake is divided between China and India, with China owning two-thirds of it.
On February 20, 2024, the marathon will be held at a height of 13,862 feet for the first time ever. The Pangong Frozen Lake Marathon, one of the most beautiful marathons ever, covers Pangong Tso in its entirety during its 21 kilometers.

Because of the ice and cold, the Pangong Frozen Lake Marathon will be extremely difficult, thus participants will be chosen mostly on their experience with previous marathons and other high-altitude adventure sports (10,000 feet and above).
The entire marathon package, which includes acclimatization exercises, must be purchased by participants. In addition, lodging, meals, and transportation to and from Leh and the airport are included in the 9-day, 8-night package. It is recommended that runners wear proper gear and apparel for competing in extremely cold temperatures on ice.
